Bob Sedergreen is a renowned Australian jazz pianist. Bob has had a long and distinguished career as a performer, bandleader and educator. He has collaborated with leading Australian artists, such as John Sangster, Don Burrows, Brian Brown and Judy Jacques, and supported some of the biggest names in jazz, including Nat Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie and Milt Jackson.

Steve is one of Melbourne’s jazz identities, known as a leading pianist, arranger of jazz projects and as an educator. Steve has been a well-established figure in the Melbourne jazz scene through a variety of activities including director and curator of Dizzy’s Jazz Club (1999 – 2006); 20 years of teaching jazz (including mentoring members of The Cat Empire) and of course as a constantly in-demand musician over a wide range of performance situations, from jazz clubs to corporate events & private parties.

Anatoly Dokumentov was born in Kostroma, USSR. At the age of five he started learning the piano and at the age of 14 he entered the world famous Moscow Conservatory where he studied with world famous pianist Lev Oborin. He now lives in Australia, and we are very pleased to have him perform at GLG this spring.

He has played through Russia, Denmak, Sweden, Ukraina and the Chech Republic, and has a huge repertoire, performing more than 20 programs.

He will be playing some piano greats, including; Beethoven’s Sonata No3, op. 2 No3 in C major; Schubert’s Four Impromptues op. 90; and S.Rachmaninov’s Nine preludes.

For this vocalist, music is story and story is music. The two bind together to create a kind of truth. Counting Billie Holiday, Anita O’Day, Cassandra Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell among her greatest influences, Julie tells stories from a ‘lived life’ and the experience is raw, generous, compelling.

Ade ishs is a songwriter and a pianist currently residing in Melbourne, Australia. He was born in 1978 in Bandung, Indonesia. His playing style revolves around contemporary jazz, classical, and meditational. He has been compared with Lyle Mays, Keith Jarrett, and Dave Grusin. Among his teachers was Peter Ferdinandus, under whose tutelage he studied music theory, history, and classical piano performance for 9 years. In 2002, ade moved to Melbourne and soon formed the Mixed Up jazz trio with Sandra Bogerd and Yugo Isal. Ade has also performed together with Way Out West’s Dung Nguyen and Dexter and the Band. Nowadays, whenever he travels to Indonesia, he plays the piano and keyboards for Gadsby, a Pat Metheny cover band.

Ade has recorded two solo acoustic piano albums, Visions (2009) and New Butterfly (2010). He is currently a regular performer at Melbourne’s Guildford Lane Gallery, where he plays a mixture of solo acoustic pieces.

It’s no accident that Emily Duncan’s hometown of Barnawartha translates to “meeting of storms.” Like a tempest, Emily’s powerful voice soars and resonates with a raw honesty, tamed with the quiet beauty of the calm and clarity that surrounds the storm. Emotion is everything for this Melbourne-based singer, which is evident in the truthfulness of her performances. Influenced by jazz, soul and blues greats – most prominently Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles – Emily brings her own story to old standards interspersed with some of her favourite blues and soul tunes.

Linda has a Bachelor of Music from Canberra School of Music and a Master of Music (Performance) from Melbourne University. She has been teaching flute and bassoon for more than 25 years. She will be accompanied on piano by Ade Ishs.

Linda has performed with many orchestras in Australia and overseas including the Melbourne Symphony, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chorale, Academy of Melbourne and the London Baroque Sinfonia. She toured Europe playing Avant-garde Chamber Music with the Alpha Centauri Ensemble.

Jeff invites you to a musical collaboration with fellow travellers from Steve Sedergreen’s Guildford Lane workshops: Dan Robertson (Piano), Daigo Nakai (Bass), Les Oldman (drums) and guest singers Julie Bailey and Sue Ann.

Jeff has a passion for the jazz players of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s with a special love for the styles of Coleman Hawkins, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins and the collaborations of Miles Davis.

He participated in the 2010 Wangaratta Jazz Festival with Julie Bailey in Modern Times and has played regularly in various Melbourne jams. He has recently combined with Dan Robertson as a duo in Blue in Green regularly gigging at the Como Cinema.

Jeff and his friends are creating an evening of jazz to celebrate two years of jazz improvisation workshops at Guildford Lane Gallery, which is soon to be closing its doors.
